Substitute the word "land" in the following quote with "a river"...
"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity
belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong,
we may begin to use it with love and respect."
- Aldo LeopoldThe original suit may have been won, but Waterbury's appeal of that decision has only just been heard by the State Supreme Court, and their decision is not expected for a few months. Until then, motions to recover legal fees are pending. So we still need money! Please send a tax-deductible contribution towards the suit's legal fund to:

New DEP Watershed Coordinators
Do you have a question about your watershed? Would you like to find out how to get funds for a river restoration project for your river? If so, give your new watershed coordinator a call. The CT Department of Environmental Protection’s Watershed Management Program (formerly the Rivers Program) has created five new positions called watershed coordinators for the five major drainage basins in the state. The primary mission of each watershed coordinator will be to facilitate DEP's watershed management efforts to improve and maintain water quality within their assigned river basins. To accomplish this, the coordinators have several key responsibilities. These include:
The Housatonic's watershed coordinator oversees the Blackberry, Hollenbeck, Aspetuck, Tenmile, Shepaug, Naugatuck, Pomperaug, Candlewood, Still and parts of Croton (NY) regional basins.
- Serving as central knowledge base about their watershed in terms of its natural features, water resource issues and state and federal programs and activities.
- Helping to focus DEP program activities on priority watershed management issues.
- Acting as a liaison between DEP and the towns, residents, citizen organizations and other groups within their watershed.
- Assisting in the development of comprehensive basin overview reports.
- Providing education and public outreach about watershed issues.
- Helping to manage nonpoint source pollution related projects financed in part with funds from the Federal Clean Water Act and the State River Restoration Grants.
